Why Can't Men Find Anything?!?

Adam: Babe, do you know where the toothpaste is?

Andi: It should be in the top drawer.

Adam: I looked there. I can't find it.

Andi: I really think it's there. I put it back after I used it this morning.

Adam: I've looked everywhere. I promise, it's not there.

Andi: Are you sure?

Adam: Yes, I'm sure.

Andi: Okay, I'll come look.

I swear to you, this is what I found when I opened the drawer.

I guess the mirror handle hid it pretty well!

This is a perfect example of something Adam does that can be so frustrating/endearing/funny at the same time. I love my Addy!

Birthday and Stuff

Adam got me sleeping bags for my birthday and reserved a campsite at Bear Creek Lake State Park for mid-October. The weather should be gorgeous and so will the fall colors. We'll hike, bike, fish, and eat s'mores all weekend. I'm so excited!

Adam made me a b-day cake all by himself!

If you can't tell, Adam's doing the gang sign for 2L (2nd year law student). Ha ha.

Holy crap! Check out how long my thumb looks in this picture!

Doesn't Adam's hand on my shoulder look kind of creepy?

P.S. Adam hates it when I make us take pictures, probably like many of your husbands. What is so bad about pictures? Don't they want to have memories? I really don't get it. It was so hard to get him to pose for these two. I think he only did it because it was my birthday. If it were up to me, we'd have a professional photographer follow us around all day. Since this is not the case, we have to just set it on top of random objects and set the timer. I guess it will suffice.

Happy Birthday!

My bride's birthday is today. This is the 4th (or 5th?) birthday that I’ve spent with her. As you can tell from these pictures, she is a wonderful person who just loves to smile. Andrea has a great sense of humor. She’s a little shy on the outside, but once she opens up, she’s one of the goofiest people you will ever know. I swear, if I had a dime for every time she randomly broke out in dance, or tried to make the most un-sexy thing sexual (some of you know that funny sexy voice she does), then I would be a very rich man. Speaking of money, she lets me spend all of hers. She’s nice like that. Thanks for sticking with me (so far), Andrea! Happy Birthday! Here’s to many more sexy dances, loud laughter and bright smiles!

Working Blues

I swear, I hate working more than the average person does. At least I complain about it more. Ask Adam. When Sunday night rolls around, I start to get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach because I know I’m going to be chained to my desk for the 5 days of my life. Every morning when my alarm goes off at 6:00 a.m., I want to throw it against the wall and cry. Sometimes I do cry. It’s getting especially bad now that it’s dark when I get up. It’s going to be even worse in the winter when it’s dark when I wake up and dark when I get home at the end of the day. I hate feeling like my whole day is spent at work. It probably doesn’t help that I work 50 hours a week, but I really do feel like all I do is work during the week. I live for my weekends more than I ever have.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not my job itself that I hate. I really like the work I do, the days fly by because I’m always so busy, and everyone I work with is great. But there are still so many other things I would rather be doing. Sometimes I want to have a baby for the sole reason that I would get to stay home everyday and not have to work. I know that sounds terrible, and I would never actually have a baby for that reason alone, but it sure does sound nice. I’m jealous of all you stay-at-home moms out there! I obviously know that being a SAHM isn’t easy and that kids keep you constantly busy, but the flexible schedule would be nice. I bet that when I’m a SAHM, I’ll wish I was working again!

Why doesn't anyone else complain about it like I do? Am I the only one that hates working? I guess I'm just a big baby.

Spirit of Washington Cruise

Even though our wedding anniversary was a month ago, we went on a dinner/entertainment cruise last night to celebrate it. Because I had work and school on our actual anniversary and didn't get home until like 9:30, we didn't really get to celebrate.

We had such a blast! There was a nice buffet dinner, live entertainment, and lots of dancing. As the boat went down the Potomac, we sat on the top deck and watched the city go by. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. It was nice, cool evening, but never got cold. The sunset was beautiful, and we had so much fun just talking for hours. The entertainers had great voices and were really fun.

The story of a chair's commute

Tuesday at work, they were trying to get rid of a few office chairs to make way for new ones. They sent out a memo asking anyone if they wanted to take one home. I took them up on the offer because the chair currently at our computer desk is super uncomfortable. I asked Adam if he wanted to come pick me up from work with the car so we could take it home that night. He told me that he didn’t want to drive through D.C. rush hour traffic, so he would just come pick it up and carry it home. I was a little skeptical and asked him if he was sure that’s what he wanted to do, and he said reassured me that it was fine.

I don’t think either of us really thought through how ridiculous this plan was. It was HILARIOUS! Adam carried a big, heavy, black office chair over his head during rush hour on a workday right in the middle of the D.C. business district. D.C. is obviously a really busy city, and the commute home isn’t exactly short. I can’t tell you how many stares and comments we got from people, especially when he got on the crowded metro with it. One guy actually said in a loud voice, “that’s one way to get a seat!” and everyone around us started busting up. I was so embarrassed.

I’m so glad I have such a wonderful husband who doesn’t care what people think of him. While I was humiliated and pretending I didn’t know him, he was taking it all in stride and carrying it proudly over his head. He’s awesome! Now we have a nice, free, comfy chair to sit in. Thanks, baby!

Hurricane Hanna hits D.C.!

We survived our first hurricane! Well, I guess it was more like a tropical storm as a result of Hurricane Hanna, but I've never seen rain like that in my life. Adam and I were driving around Saturday morning through the rain, and they started closing roads everywhere and it took us forever to get home. We were driving through a river. I took this picture with my phone because I didn't have my camera with me. It was really crazy and really fun. It rained like mad for about 24 hours and then just stopped. Today was a gorgeous day and you couldn't even tell that there had just been a tropical storm except for a few downed trees here and there.

We had a great weekend. Friday night we went to the J. Reuben Clark Law Society (kind of like the law school Mormon club) Opening Social where we got to see all of the law students and their spouses and kids. It was fun to get to know all of the new 1Ls and reacquaint with others that we hadn't seen in awhile.

Saturday we watched the rain all day with the windows open, watched Harry Potter, and took a nap. Later in the evening, we went out to dinner with a couple that we just met in the ward. Even later in the evening, we met up with the England's at a sports bar to watch the U of U game. Adam and the England's are huge U fans, but I'm obviously not. It was fun to hang out and talk anyway.

We had stake conference this morning. There were some great talks, mainly focused on missionary work. I really felt the spirit in the meeting and re-devoted myself to be more open to sharing the gospel with others. It's really not hard. You just have to be brave enough to open your mouth and not be scared that they're going to be offended or think you're a weirdo. After our afternoon nap, we had a really cute couple in the ward over for dinner to get to know them. The wife is actually in charge of this website for a living. What a unique, creative job to have! It's a great website and you should all check it out.

Anyway, it was a great, relaxing weekend. One of those that should be a model weekend for all others. Too bad I need to be at work in 9 hours and 27 minutes...

Adam's Favorite Shoes

I am so embarrassed of my husband. He does the craziest things! A couple of weeks ago, while wearing his shoes (which were already hideous enough to begin with), he decided that his "feet were hot" and wanted to cut holes in the top to help them breathe. Now mind you, these "holes" turned out to be more than holes. He turned his shoes into a horrifying lattice/spiderweb of blue foam. When he was done, he was so proud of his creation that he was almost giddy.

I laughed at him, judged him, and told him how ridiculous they looked and to never wear them in public. And I clarified that when I mean public, I mean not even out the front door to pick up the newspaper from the porch.

As the weeks have gone on, they have turned into his favorite shoes. He wears them 10 times more than he used to. He has now worn them to the grocery store, post office, bookstore, car repair shop, on walks, and even when the cute couple in our new ward came over to meet us last week. I am mortified!

The process.

It's especially bad when he wears them with white socks, like in this picture.

I just need to bite my tongue and let Adam be Adam. At least his feet can breathe!

Labor Day Weekend

I got to go home to see my family for the holiday weekend! At $500 a ticket, we couldn't afford to fly Adam out too, so I went by myself. I missed him while I was gone, but let's be honest- not too much because I was having such a blast! :) My older sister Jessica (who promises she'll start updating her blog soon) and her husband Scooter are moving to England next month, so I had to spend some time with her before she left. Scooter is starting a 1 year master's program at Oxford followed by an MD/PhD at University of Kansas next summer. I'm so excited for them slash incredibly jealous of all the European traveling they're going to get to do while they're over there.

Some of the weekend's highlights:

Friday we got manis and pedis.

Saturday we went boating at Sand Hollow.

Later that night we went to my little sister Lauren's play Les Miserables at Tuachan. It was fabulous! She did a wonderful job as a "lovely lady", if you know what I mean, wink, wink.

Sunday we took pictures after church because we were all dressed up and sexy.

The whole fam.

I curled my mom's hair. Doesn't it look cute?

Surprise faces. We love doing these. You move your face as fast as you can in a ridiculous manner and see how they turn out. They're always hilarious.

I love being home and spending time with my family. The longer I'm away from them, the more I cherish the time that I do get with them. It feels like the times we are all together are getting fewer and farther between. My parents and sisters mean the world to me. It makes me sad to think that we're going to live farther and farther away from each other as we all get older. I'm in D.C., Jessica is going to be in England, Rachelle in Provo at BYU, and Lauren in Cedar City at SUU. I doubt we'll ever all live in the same city, or even state, again.

I realized a few weeks ago that it's been over 5 years since I've lived at home. I can hardly believe that much time has gone by since I loaded up the car and went off to college at 17. I love where I am in life, but sometimes I miss the days when we all lived at home together. Despite all of the fights over clothes borrowed without permission, the countless nights my dad dragged me out of bed at midnight because I hadn't finished the dishes or walked the dog like he had asked, and all of the drama that resulted from living in a house of 5 over-reacting women, I miss it. I miss my family. I love them so much and am so grateful I got to spend a little time with them before we part ways once again.
