Isaac: 6 Months Old
Dear Isaac,
You are a sweet, perfect, precious little angel. I grow more obsessed with you every day. Your personality is shining through and you smile constantly. You adore your big brothers and they're the ones that make you laugh most frequently. You have a huge grin which is still gummy (thank goodness!), giant blue eyes, and an inquisitive little expression.
You still stink at sleeping. I am in the bad habit again of nursing you to sleep for each nap and for bedtime. When I'm done, I have to stand up from the rocking chair ever so carefully, walk to your crib, and lay you down slowly. You frequently wake up when you hit your crib and realize that you're not asleep in my arms with my boob in your mouth. As much as I'd love to hold you for hours while you nap every day, it's not realistic. Naps are especially hard because of the layout of our house. Your bedroom is the closest room to the kitchen, which is the lifeblood of the house. I try to keep the noise down and I'm constantly shushing your brothers, but it's hard to tame them. They wake you up frequently by yelling in the hall as they run wildly to their room or being too noisy in the kitchen. I dream of the day when we can move out of this house and have the bedrooms on a separate floor from the living area.
You've been waking up 4 or 5 times in the night lately and I kind of want to die when morning rolls around. Last night, you got up 6 times! I'm sorry, but you don't need to nurse every hour. You are way too big for that. Your dad and I have talked it over and we're going to start sleep training you tonight. It breaks my heart to let you cry, but I seriously can't keep living like this. I have to have some energy to take care of all of my boys during the day and I feel like crying every day because I'm so exhausted. I feel like you are a newborn again!
You have finally started "standing" or stiffening your legs when we hold you on our laps. For so long, your legs would just flop underneath you. It's like you didn't even realize you had legs until a few weeks ago. But now your favorite pastime is looking at your surroundings while you stand proudly and puff out your chest. It is the cutest thing ever.
We gave you your first taste of food recently- squash. You weren't a fan. We've tried it quite a few times but we can never get in more than a few bites. We've also tried my pumped breast milk mixed with oatmeal, but you hated that even worse. The last thing I want is to force it on you, so I've really backed off. I know you'll get it eventually and I'm not stressed about it at all. We have had a little more success with giving you tiny pieces of real food- beans, broccoli, pasta, cheese, and strawberries. You seem a lot more interested in that but still don't know quite what to do with it. You usually end up pushing it back out of your mouth onto your chin.
Keep growing, keep smiling, keep exploring the world around you. We adore you and are so grateful you're ours!
Lots of love,
Mama
