Isaac: 14 Months Old

Dear Isaac,

You sure have the sassy attitude to match your bright right red hair! I love how strongly you feel about things and how passionate you are about life. If I had to describe you in one word, it would be ANIMATED. You are not the type to just sit around passively. You have big facial expressions, you babble non-stop, and your smile lights up the room. You are a happy, animated little boy with lots of attitude and I wouldn't want you any other way!

The past few weeks, you have become completely obsessed with books. You pull them off bookshelves one by one and throw them onto the floor. Then you pick them up and drag them behind you around the house as you crawl. You bring them to me, hold them up vigorously, and yell at the top of your lungs as if to say, "Read this to me, woman!" I'll sit on the floor and you'll immediately crawl into my lap and point to the pictures in the book with your chubby little finger. I have to say that there is nothing better in the world. Seriously. I love every second of it even though you want to do this all day long. I probably read you 20 books a day. Actually, I probably read you the same three books 20 times a day.

This past month, you've transitioned from two naps a day down to one and it's been pretty rough. You're ready to go to sleep in the morning by 9:30 or 10:00, but you usually only sleep for about an hour and a half. When you wake up, it's only about 11:00 or 11:30 and then you won't sleep again until bedtime at about 7:30 p.m. You've been incredibly fussy the past few weeks and it's been so hard for me to get anything done around the house because you want to be held all the time. I've been trying to make you stay up longer in the morning but it's always pretty hard. I know this is just a phase and that you'll get it all figured out soon, but that doesn't make it any easier in the meantime!

You're still nursing 4 times a day, once when you wake up, once when you go down for your nap, once in the afternoon, and again before bed. I love nursing you and you love nursing, so I don't see a point in changing anything up right now! I think we'll be done around 18 months, so I'm trying to cherish the last few months I have left with you.

About two weeks ago, you took your first step. You stood up on your own in the middle of the floor without holding onto anything and started charging forward. You took one step before falling. Then you got up again and did the same thing but took three steps. Since then, you've taken a few here and there but you still prefer crawling as your primary mode of transportation. You love to walk around the house holding onto our fingers but aren't quite ready to do it on your own yet.

You love unhealthy food! If the unhealthy food isn't there as an option, you'll eat the healthier options but if you see the unhealthy option, you won't eat anything else. If we go out for burgers and fries, you refuse to eat a single bite of burger because all you want is to chow down on fries. You're such a little stinker! Sometimes we'll hide the french fries until you've gotten a little protein in you.

I am having more and more fun with you every day. Thanks for being such a joyful, smiley little boy, full of preferences and opinions! I love you!

Love,
Mama
