Isaac: 13 Months Old

Dear Isaac,

If I thought you were sassy last month, boy was I wrong! You have more opinions and preferences than ever. You are talking up a storm and I love listening to you try to communicate what you want. You babble constantly and you are adding more consonants to your vocabulary. You've recently added the word "TOUCH!" to your repertoire and it's pretty much the cutest thing ever. You vigorously point to things that you look interesting and yell it at the top of your lungs. You love to explore and are more interested in the world around you than ever.

Your sleeping has taken a turn for the worse this month, just like I feared it would. You have started getting up in the night again, although it's not every night. It's kind of hit or miss. You are also starting to act like you want to drop your afternoon nap. You fall asleep for your morning nap easily every day and usually sleep from about 10:00-12:00, but when I put you down in the afternoon, you don't fall asleep. I've been experimenting with putting you down slightly earlier or slightly later to see what will work, but it's been a solid week since you've actually fallen asleep. You usually fuss or yell until I finally give up and get you out of your crib. Because you haven't had an afternoon nap, you're crabby in the evenings. It's sad for your dad because you are always on your worst behavior when he gets home from work. I usually put you down for the night shortly after he gets home, so you don't get much time together.

You still only have those 6 darn teeth, but from the way you've been acting lately, they must be about to break through. You've been really fussy and aren't yourself. I'm blaming it on teething. You're normally an incredibly happy and smiley baby, but lately, you've been unhappy. I've started giving you ibuprofen the past few days and it's seemed to help a little. I'm sorry that you're in pain! I wish you could tell me how you're feeling so I could help you!

You love books. You frequently bring them to me. I love snuggling you on my lap while I read to you. I love watching your fat little finger point to pictures on the pages. You especially love books with pictures on animals. You squeal when you see them and kick your legs excitedly. Animals in real life are even better. I wish I wasn't allergic to dogs because I would get you one in a heartbeat.

You're getting so confident on stairs that I'm starting to trust you on them without much supervision. I frequently leave the baby gate open and keep half an eye on you while you go up and down. So far, you haven't fallen. Yay! You're the first Alba boy to not have taken a tumble. Let's try to keep it that way.

Your relationship with your older brothers is getting sweeter by the day. Eli recently realized that he is strong enough to pick you up and it's hilarious to watch him lift you under your armpits and carry you around the room. You usually like it for the first few seconds and have a big grin on your face, but then you realize that you're not quite as safe as you are with an adult and you want him to put you down. You love to get in on the rough-housing action with your brothers and feel like one of the big boys. You love when your dad throws you on the love sac. I love watching you. You think you're so big, but really, you're still a tiny baby. You love to zoom cars around the house and are getting pretty good at entertaining yourself too. Sometimes you'll go 20 or 30 minutes without needing any attention from me, which I think is pretty darn cool.

You are a snuggly little guy. You love to bury your head into people's necks and wrap your little arms around them. You lay your head on their shoulders and even know how to "squeeze" on command. Lately, you've been especially snuggly with your dad. I love how affectionate you are. You're still nursing 4 times a day and I love our special time together. I love the closeness I feel with you and the bond that we share.

Isaac, you are so much fun. You are an incredible little boy and I love watching to learn and grow!

Love forever and always,
Mama
