Moses: 22 Months Old
Dear Moses,
You have been a sick little guy this month and it's been making me so sad! It started with a fever, which only lasted a few days, but then turned into a runny nose that has been around for weeks. It seemed to disappear for a few days but is back with a vengence. Thick, yellow snot is pouring out of your nose like a fountain 24/7 and I'm wiping it so much that the skin under your nose is red and sore. It looks so painful! You fuss and try to get away from me every time I do it and I feel terrible, but I can't just let it run down your face all the time! Your eyes have been gloopy too and you wake up every morning with crusty boogers under your nose and in your eyes. I always have to put you in a warm, steamy shower to loosen it up enough to wipe it all off. It's breaking my heart!
Your appetite has been terrible this month because of your sickness and you've even lost a little weight. I've been pretty worried about you. I can get a few bites into you here and there but you never eat much. I can't remember the last time you just pounded a big plate of food. I'm sure part of the problem is your age but I think this lingering virus you've had has wiped out your appetite. I'm hoping you can recover soon and start eating again! I like my babies nice and chubby and you've gotta eat to keep all of those yummy rolls that I love!
At the beginning of the month, I had a scare with my breast milk and thought that our nursing days were over. I had a couple of days where I didn't seem to be producing anything and I was freaking out. I sobbed and sobbed and laid awake for hours in the night worrying about it, but it turned out that my milk production came roaring back within just a few days. I don't know what the deal was, but I'm just happy that I can do it for a little longer. My goal has always been to make it until your second birthday and I think we'll definitely be able to.
Your obsession with your daddy has reached a completely new level. It's pretty ridiculous. On nights and weekends when he's around, you refuse to leave his side. You want him to hold you, you follow him around, you wrap your arms around his legs, you lean in for boogery kisses, and you want to sit on his lap. I love watching you two lovebirds together. He loves it too and always has withdrawals from you when he has to leave you!
Your little body is thinning out. You're definitely looking less like a baby and more like a tall, skinny little boy. I've actually gotten quite a few comments from people about this lately. It seriously breaks my heart that you're losing your baby fat. I pull you up onto my lap and squeeze your squishy thighs whenever I get the chance because I know they're not going to be around for much longer!!!
You're still behind with your talking but I'm honestly not worried about it at all. I know you'll catch up as soon as you're ready. You're smart as can be and I can tell that you understand almost everything I say to you. It's pretty amazing how well you can communicate with us just through your grunts and body language. You have lots of opinions and I know all of them! I understand you well despite your lack of speaking, probably because we spend all day every day together. I love it so much. I think the only words you've added this month are "car" and "go."
The weather has been warming up a little and it's been so nice to be able to send you outside to play. You love to ride wiggle cars, play in the little play house, or just walk around and find sticks. We've started going to parks with friends and spending as much time in the sunshine as possible, which has been heavenly. This winter felt so brutal to me!
Mo, I love and adore you. I am trying to soak you up because you're hardly a baby anymore! Stop getting so big! I love your cheesy little grin, your giggles, and how much you love me. You're my best little buddy and I love having you in our family!
Love,
Mama
