The Mattie Plate

One of my best Christmas presents came in the mail the other day, a little late, but so adorable. My brother-in-law, Zach, custom made a plate with a picture of my favorite non-human on it, Mattie. For those of you that don't know, I freaking love that dog. She's the Alba family dog and she's very stupid. She licks walls, stares at shadows, eats snail poison, wears human clothing occasionally, runs onto school buses to greet her brothers, cuddles with just about anything alive, and can even do flips. Mattie has provided us hours of entertainment over the years. It's going to be a sad day when she gets hit by a car again, but it finally finishes her off.

Here is a video clip of Mattie doing one of her favorite hobbies, pushing a rock around the yard and barking at it. Just so you know, she doesn't wear clothes very often. She just happens to be in this video.

Mattie actually played a big part in my wedding proposal. She ran into the room wearing a bridal veil and carrying the ring in a little bag tied around her neck. Of course she wouldn't just bring the ring over to Adam however, but instead ran frantically around the house while he chased her, finally pinning her down, and managing to wrestle it away from her. I was crying and laughing while watching the fiasco go down.

Anyway, thanks for the great present Zach! I'll get a lot of use out of it!

P.S. Here is a picture of one of my other favorite Christmas presents, a right hand ring from Adam. I've been half begging, half teasing him for awhile now about how he should get me one. My right hand has felt so naked!, so ugly!, so bare! since I've had my wedding ring on my left. I was totally shocked when he actually did!

Roses from my sweet husband

They were by far the biggest roses I have ever seen! They smelled so good too.

Calorie King

I found this website on a fellow blogger's blog and spent some time looking up the nutritional (or lack of) information for some of my favorite things to order when I go out to eat. I was shocked! I am such a disgusting human! I put the nastiest, fattiest, greasiest things in my body! Here's are a few examples:

Chili's Chicken Crispers:
1880 calories, 130 grams of fat, 518 mins of walking required to burn the calories.
Olive Garden's Fettuccine Alfredo: 1700 calories, 96 grams of fat, 468 mins of walking required to burn the calories.
Applebee's Fiesta Lime Chicken: 1285 calories, 47 grams of fat, 354 minutes of walking required to burn the calories.
Arby's Beef & Cheddar Sandwich & Curly Fries: 845 calories, 45 grams of fat, 223 minutes of walking.
Pizza Hut Pan Crust Pepperoni Pizza (3 slices): 1200 calories, 63 grams of fat, 330 minutes walking.

Good thing we don't eat out very often! We usually only go about once or twice a month. Maybe I should change what I order when I eat out. The sad thing is that the things I crave are always fat-filled, salty, and greasy. I need to change my evil ways!

1st night of grad school

I had my first paralegal class last night. I feel really overwhelmed! I have a feeling that it is going to be totally intense. When I got there, I was surprised to find that there were only 9 other students that had been accepted to the program. I figured there would be 30 or 40 of us, but no! Not to mention that every single one besides me is either working as a paralegal right now, has taken the LSAT and is planning on going to law school, or has some other form of legal experience. I can't even fathom why I got in. I felt out of place. My introduction went pretty much like this: "Hi! I'm Andrea! I'm working as a nanny and I'm pretty much just doing this program because I think it will be super fun!!!" It wasn't really that bad, but you get the idea.

My professors seem really classy and sharp. One has practiced law for 18 years, started the paralegal programs at UNC Georgetown, and George Washington. The other has both his JD and Masters in Library Sciences and is the head librarian at GW. Did you know that all the librarians are JD's? I didn't! How cool is that?

One of my classes is in the law school so I'll get to see Adam. I've always wanted to go to school with him. I guess I'll just being going to school in the same building as him, but it's still pretty exciting. We can eat dinner together and be school friends! I'm excited!

Back to School!

I posted a few weeks ago about getting into the George Washington University graduate paralegal program and I was debating whether or not to do it. After going back and forth for a few weeks, I decided that I'm going to go for it! Classes start tonight!

I am very excited to be going back to school. It's been a year and I am definitely ready to be challenged again. Being a paralegal is going to be such a good career that I can use anywhere we decide to live. It's also really flexible (I can work from home or part time at a firm). I feel a lot better knowing that I will have a marketable skill that I actually use and make money if need be. Not to be morbid or anything, but what if Adam dies in some freak accident and we have a bunch of kids that need food, a house, and clothing? How would I support them with my geography degree? I loved studying geography at BYU and don't regret it, but I'm glad I'm going a little further.

This program is not to be confused with a paralegal program that you can do right out of high school. Not for the money I'm paying for it. :) It's a graduate program. A bachelor's degree is a requirement. This program is one of two like it in the country and both are less than two years old. My schedule this semester consists of American Jurisprudence (I don't even know what that word means! Guess I'll find out soon enough), Legal Research and Writing, and Corporate and Contracts Law. Yay!

Wish me luck!

Back to real life

We're back in DC and it's HOT! The high tomorrow is supposed to be 71 degrees! Woot! As this is my first winter here, I have no idea if this is abnormal or not. I'm assuming it is, but I don't know. I'm really digging this weather! It has only snowed once this season and it was gone within a few days.

We had a great time in Utah. Our days were filled with family, food, friends, food, fun, and more food. We couldn't have asked for anything better. I am so blessed to have a job that allowed me to leave for 2 1/2 weeks! It was absolutely perfect. I have so many pictures to post but I haven't had a chance to upload them all yet. More to come...
